Anal fissure is a tear in the skin of anal canal, which causes severe sharp pain before and after defecation, bright red blood commonly seen on the stool surface. The incidence of fissure in ano is same in both men and women. Pain and burning sensation in anal canal will be so severe where the patient may avoid defecation for days, which can again leads to constipation and worsen the condition. Due to the burning sensation and pain, patient will be having discomfort, unable to concentrate on his daily routine and so it is embarrassing and debilitating.

WHAT IS ANAL FISSURE:

An Anal fissure is a linear ulcer in the lining of the anal canal, extending from the the anal opening and are usually located posteriorly in the midline.

Anal fissure may be superficial and deep or acute and chronic.

Acute: Acute fissure heals spontaneously by itself within 6 to 8 weeks.

Chronic: There intensity of pain will be less ,takes longer time to heal and may need medical intervention.

CAUSES OF FISSURE IN ANO:

1. Constipation: fissures are usually due to passage of large and hard stool.

2. Sedentary life style: No physical exercise may cause hard stools which inturn leads to fissure.

3. Irregular food habits: Improper and untimely food.

4. In females usually happens during pregnancy and child birth.

5. Crohn’s disease.

6. Ulcerative colitis

7. Low dietary fiber intake and less intake of liquid.

HOW FISSURE OCCURS:

Due to the above mentioned causative factors, the vata dosha gets vitiated. The vitiated vata dries up the stools resulting in constipation. This leads to fissure in Ano.
