 Polycystic ovarian syndrome is one of the most common endocrine disorders among females. PCOS is a complex, heterogeneous endocrine disorder of uncertain etiology resulting in irregular menstruation, high level of androgens (Male Hormones), anovulation and leading to infertility. PCOS is one of the leading cause of female subfertility. PCOS has been associated with high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, high cholesterol.PCOS produces symptoms in approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age.It also has significant mental health and psychological impact, impairing quality of life.PCOS presents with Hirsutism, hairs presents in face, chest, stomach, and back etc,acne, oily skin, dandruff.Anxiety and depression, social with drawl may result in some.

WHAT IS PCOS?

In women with PCOS, the ovary does not make all the hormones it needs for an egg to fully mature. The follicle may start to grow and build up fluid but ovulation does not occur, instead follicle may remain as cysts.

Ovaries are two small organs, attached to the uterus one on each side near the opening of fallopian tubes. Functions of ovaries: Produces female gametes or oocytes. Secretes female sex hormones including estrogen and progesterone. Secretes inhibin involved in feedback control of pituitary FSH Production.

CAUSES FOR POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN DISEASE:

  • Heredity.
  • Hormonal imbalance.
  • In ayurveda PCOS is not only due to the above factors it also caused to imbalance in internal metabolism.

According to Ayurveda PCOS can be caused due to imbalance of the three doshas, the prime one being vata and kapha. It further affects manovaha srotas leading to imbalance in hormones secreted by pituitary gland, this results in increase of kapha which causes formation of cysts and other symptoms.
